Mastering Basic Rigging in Rope Access: IRATA Level 1 Training

Introduction:

In the dynamic field of rope access, mastering the basics of rigging is crucial for safety and efficiency. This blog post will delve into the key insights from my informative YouTube video titled “How to make a BASIC RIGGING in Rope Access – IRATA Level 1 Training.” The video, a valuable resource for beginners and more experienced rope techs alike, and focuses on anchor choice and the essentials of basic rigging.

Understanding Anchor Strength:

As outlined in the IRATA ICOP (International Code of Practice), a single anchor must possess a Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS) of 15Kn or be unquestionably reliable. To work safely we always need two independent anchor points that adhere to this standard. Your local rules and regulations may differ a bit and range from 12kN to 18kN. These criteria ensure us a strong and secure foundation for rope access activities.

The Dilemma: Where and How to Rig?

While knowing the anchor strength requirements is crucial, understanding where and how to rig the rope is equally important. The video emphasizes this aspect by presenting two examples of what is referred to as BASIC rigging.

Example 1: Practical Insights into Rigging Techniques

The video walks viewers through practical demonstrations, providing hands-on insights into the proper techniques for basic rigging. Understanding the nuances of rigging is fundamental to ensuring a safe and effective setup for rope access.

Example 2: Real-world Scenarios

Furthermore, the video delves into real-world scenarios, illustrating how to apply the basic rigging concepts in different situations. This practical approach enhances the viewer’s ability to adapt and respond to varying challenges in the field.

Knot Choice: The Double Figure of Eight Knot

A key component of basic rigging is the choice of knot. The video underlines the significance of the Double Figure of Eight Knot for securing the rigging. This knot, known for its simplicity and reliability, ensures a strong and secure connection, adding an extra layer of safety to the rigging process.
