Introduction:
The Harken Safety and Rescue Wingman, a mini haul kit from Harken Safety and Rescue, has been a consistent part of my gear in 2023. This review offers a pragmatic assessment, focusing on its utility in various applications.

I extend gratitude to Harken for generously sending the Wingman for evaluation. Their willingness to provide additional information and support through a call is commendable and greatly valued.
Deliberate Review Process:
The meticulous review process took time, reflecting the sporadic use of this equipment in my role as a rope access technician, primarily engaged in rigging and lifting tasks. Notably, the Wingman’s controlled lowering capability has proven advantageous in such scenarios.
Key Features and Specifications:
Functioning as a mechanical-advantage device for load lifting and release, the Wingman is tailored for work at height, access, and rescue situations. With a capacity for human suspension up to a 3 kN load, it incorporates a releasing handle for controlled descent, reminiscent of a descender. Noteworthy specifications include an MBS of 45kN, device slip at 4kN, and 15 meters of 8mm Sterling rope (likely HTP), providing approximately 3 meters of throw. Subsequently, newer 9-meter and 15-meter versions have been introduced.
Versatile Applications:
The Harken Wingman demonstrates versatility, serving purposes ranging from pick-off rescues, litter scoops, personal mechanical advantage, load transfer, personal positioning, pre-tensioned back-ties, redirect anchors, to dynamic deviations. Its adaptability positions it as a reliable tool, establishing it as my preferred choice in various scenarios.
