The Challenge:

A realistic setup of what a Croll rescue may look like if we forget to train for real life and in this case that would be rope stretch. Also known as “How NOT to do a Croll rescue on 25 meters of rope” πŸ˜‰.
This is an example of what can happen if we forget to train for real life. Those short ropes in a lot of training centers can give us a false sense of capability and with that a false sense of security. The , as taught in many training centers around the world, only really works on short ropes.

The solution:

Like always, there are multiple ways to prevent this. In this video I will show you the most basic way to prevent this and I will show how I got out of the upside down situation πŸ˜‰.

The easiest way and arguably the method that should be taught as standard is performing a counterbalance and using that to change the casualty over to his/her descender. The sitback of the casualty will be minimal and that we have no issue with rope stretch. And even better, after that the rescue will be a very basic Level 1 descending rescue.

Trying new rope access gear:

Trying the @cmcpro_official Boost foot loop on a variety of rescues and work situations and that extra length is a real benefit.

And I’m supporting @interventionrescue with their @grimpday t-shirt. I am really positive those legends will not end up in a situation like thisπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
